Welcome to the dream destination.
Mauritius is truly a paradise island. From the friendly locals to the clear blue sea; from endless spans of white sand beaches to the botanical gardens, boat rides and local markets… you will truly forget all of your worries.
The moment I arrived it was raining heavily, but it was so beautiful I didn’t even mind. A local taxi driver took me to my hotel, Shangri La Le Toussrok, and gave me an amazing tour of the island on route. Even before my arrival at the hotel, I felt I had gained so much more knowledge about the island. The staff at Shangri La are outstanding & the food was exquisite, a tip would be to make sure you pre-book dinner at the hotel restaurants as it gets booked up fast! My hotel room was incredible, at 600 sq ft it was larger than my london apartment! With glass doors onto a gorgeous terrace right onto the ocean, the sea was only a few feet from my breakfast table. The tropical birds loved coming to say hi and occasionally tried to make off with my food!
A few hours post arrival, we took a short taxi ride to the botanical gardens ( Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden) which was gorgeous, so many beautiful colours and flowers we had never seen before. I’d advise to take a little picnic with you, so you can relax in the sunshine having a snack while breathing in the fresh flower aromas of the Garden.
Day 2 was yacht day. We boarded around 11am – and set off promptly. It was a magical experience, the yacht crew were so friendly and professional. We sailed around half of the island and absorbed the most magical views while listening to the soothing sound of the water lapping against the boat. The crew took us to a shallow, clear blue spot of the water and we dived in. I personally used a rubber ring on a lead (not the best swimmer!), and as the current was about to sweep me away one of the crew reeled me in to safety (lol). Tip – use sunscreen! My feet were burned for months! We had a nice break for lunch, serving lobster, veg, fries & chicken wings. We went to the water rapids, and had the opportunity to paddle-board. After several hours of the most peaceful, inspiring, beautiful afternoon, we were finally taken back to shore, where we waited on a beautiful tropical beach for 20 mins or so while waiting for the boat which took us directly back to the hotel.
Day 3 we checked out some of the local towns & markets, so many vibrant colours, local cuisine. I couldn’t stop taking photos! The nightlight in Mauritius is incredible, so many different hotels with different dj’s especially on weekends.
Day 4 I moved to a hotel room on the other side of the hotel, which had an entirely different view. Glass doors right out onto the beach, shallow waters, it was magical.
Anybody who’s in need of a serious de-stress, or a destination to propose or honeymoon… Mauritius is the place for you!
